10/06/2026 – Statement from UCUG Branch Officers

In response to last night’s far right rally in central Glasgow, the UCU Glasgow branch officers reaffirm the statement agreed by the Joint Union Liaison Committee in August 2024. Our branch is committed to challenging the far right and to defending migrants on and off campus (Local Motion, September 2025). On June 25 and 26, UCU is offering a new two-day course for UCU reps and activists “Challenging the Far Right” and we strongly encourage members to attend.

We understand that members of targeted groups may wish to avoid certain areas or prefer to work from home to avoid traveling during these times. Please contact your line manager in the first instance, but if you run into any trouble with your request, contact the branch. Additional safety resources, including shelters and mutual aid groups, are linked in our statement. Finally, we urge those members who feel able to attend the demonstration against the far right on the Buchanan Steps on Saturday. More details will be provided when we receive them from the demonstration organisers.
